New iPhones to stick with Lightning over USB-C, claims report

2 monthes ago   |   By The Verge

Apple's 2019 iPhone models will be equipped with a Lightning connector rather than a USB-C port, according to a report from Macotakara. Previous reports had claimed that Apple was testing “some versions” of this year's phone with a USB-C connector. Last year, Macotakara , which has connections to both the Asian supply chain and Asian accessory manufacturers, successfully predicted that the 2018 iPad Pro would drop Lightning in favor of USB-C.
Macotakara 's report also claims that this year's phones will once again include Apple's standard 5W USB-A charger in the box with each phone. If...

TSMC to remain as sole supplier for Apple's A13 chips

2 monthes ago   |   By GSMArena

A report from inside sources surfaced claiming that TSMC will remain Apple's sole supplier of chips for this year's iPhones. Last year, TSMC made all of Apple's A12 Bionic chips and we expect the same for the 2019 iPhones too.
The new A13 chip will remain on the 7nm node but with enhanced EUV. Production should kick off in the second quarter of 2019 if all goes to plan.
TSMC's CEO said that 25% of the company's revenue comes from the 7nm foundries and will probably continue to grow because of the increased demand in the HPC and automotive sectors...

2019 iPhone series could skip USB-C again, stick with 5W charger in the box

2 monthes ago   |   By Phone Arena

Apple's iPhone series has stayed loyal to the Lightning connector ever since it was first introduced in 2012. But recently, rumors of 2019 iPhones complete with USB-C ports have begun swirling around. According to Japanese site Mac Otakara, though, this will not be the case.
Despite actively testing iPhone prototypes with USB-C ports, it's suggested that Apple has chosen to stick with its proprietary port for yet another year, a decision which is seemingly tied directly with production costs and profit.
As things stand, Apple benefits from large economies of scale due to the ...

Apple stays away and one step ahead of Samsung with A13 chip production for 2019 iPhones

2 monthes ago   |   By Phone Arena

Apple's 2019 iPhones are undoubtedly still many months away, but that can't stop the rumor mill from already churning at full speed in regards to names, differences between models, camera specifications, possible camera layouts, ports and various other details.
One of the very few tidbits you can probably take to the bank is the manufacturer of the Apple A13 SoC. For the fourth year in a row, the Cupertino-based tech giant is expected to join forces with semiconductor behemoth TSMC on a smartphone chipset likely to give the competition a run for its money in terms of both raw speed and ...
