7 monthes ago   |   By Android Headlines

Electric Volvo XC40 runs Android Automotive OS, with Google Play, Maps and Assistant

7 monthes ago   |   By Pocket-lint

Volvo is preparing to launch its first all-electric car - the XC40 SUV - and it's going to town teasing new features. The latest is that it's going all-in with Google, sitting on Android Automotive for a new infotainment system. That might not come as huge surprise, as it follows the Polestar 2 in using Google's automotive solution. While that is great news for Google natives and Android users, the Polestar also works with the iPhone and we have no doubt that the electric XC40 will too. So what do you get from Volvo? It looks as though it's running on the same 9-inch display found in the...

The inventor of Android wants to sell you an incredibly ugly, useless phone that nobody in their right mind should buy

After his rather unceremonious departure from Google , Andy Rubin founded Essential, a hardware company supposed to manufacture high-end smartphones and other hardware. Thus came the Essential Phone, a device that proved to be not that essential to anyone. So few units were sold that nobody would blame you if you forgot this thing actually existed. The Essential and its notch design was launched in 2017 before the iPhone X, and it's often a phone that hardcore Android fans like to believe inspired all Android OEMs to copy the notch - it didn't. Still, the company was rumored to be working...
