YouTube has announced a new ‘Copyright Match' tool that will help protect creators from having their videos stolen. Once a video is uploaded, YouTube now scans its library videos to find others that my be the same or very similar. The tool will only identify complete videos, not individual clips, meaning users won't have to worry about content that uses other footage that falls under fair use, such as criticism. Re-uploading videos on YouTube is a favorite of scammy channels that try to profit from other people's work. Copyright owners already have a number of ways to protect their content, but today , the service is introducing a new tool that automatically scans every newly uploaded video to check if it's a re-upload of an existing one or “very similar” to a video that's already on the site.
