Google Pay branding is now replacing Android Pay in the Play Store

3 monthes ago   |   By MobileSyrup

Google's rebrand of Android Pay, Google Pay, is now rolling out in Canada. Google Pay is the combination of Google Wallet - a platform we still don't have in Canada - and Android Pay. Despite this, Android Pay is now known as Google Pay, even for us Canadians. Google also plans on introducing Google Pay to its Chrome browser, as well as Google Home. The app shows users a new ‘Home tab' with recent purchases, nearby stores and access to rewards and helpful tips. It also features a ‘Cards tab,' which keeps credit card, debit cards, loyalty programs, gift cards and other offers. With this...

Google testing split-screen functionality for Android apps on Chromebooks

Google testing split-screen functionality for Android apps on Chromebooks

3 monthes ago   |   By MobileSyrup

Split-screen multi-tasking on a Chromebook is set to get a whole lot more convenient in the future. A recent update to the Chrome operating system's Canary test channel has made it so users can run a Chrome OS app and an Android app side-by-side or two Android apps. Users just have to drag and hold one app to the left or right side of the screen, then place a second application on the other side. This adds to the previous multi-tasking option of split-screening two native Chrome OS apps. The trial of the new feature makes sense, given the rumours that Chrome OS will arrive on tablets soon.

Android Pay is dead, long live Google Pay

Android Pay is dead, long live Google Pay

3 monthes ago   |   By TechRadar

After realising that it was more than slightly unnecessary for Android Pay and Google Wallet to be completely separate services, Google has started rolling out its new unified payment service, Google Pay. The new app, now available on Android devices, is largely similar to Android Pay in terms of function but it has a slightly different layout. It's split into two sections: Home, which allows you to see all of your recent payments, any nearby stores and any rewards you can claim, and Cards, which is where you'll store and find all of your credit and debit cards, loyalty cards, offers, and...

Google Pay launches to replace Android Pay and Google Wallet

The rebrand to end them all.
At the beginning of the year, Google announced that it'd be merging its Android Pay and Google Wallet services under one new umbrella called "Google Pay." A little more than a month since that announcement, the Google Pay app is now rolling out to users via an update on the Play Store.
What does this change mean? Admittedly, not a whole lot. The Android Pay app on the Play Store is being changed to Google Pay, and while there's a new logo and tweaked UI, all of Android Pay's core functionality is still here. You can view all of your linked cards, pay for things...
