Android Q's Dark Mode Breaks Google Photos, Makes It Almost Unusable

8 days ago   |   By Android Headlines

Android Q Beta 1 dropped yesterday, and many are still digging around to see what's new in this latest version of Android. However, one thing that is new, is dark mode working in more Google apps. This includes Google Photos, where it is all but broken right now.
The entire app is in dark mode, but the text within the app is also dark, making it mostly unreadable. It also looks pretty terrible on the Google Pixel 3 XL, due to the notch and the status bar being all white. You can still see the text, slightly, but hopefully Google will update the app to show the text in white, or at least a...

Android Q Beta 1 Delivers Subtle Notification Improvements

Android Q Beta 1 Delivers Subtle Notification Improvements

8 days ago   |   By Android Headlines

Along with a veritable plethora of exciting and predictably buggy features arriving with the first Beta of Android Q, Google has included at least one less obvious feature that should make life easier for those who receive a lot of notifications. Spotted by 9to5Google , the notification cards contained on the pull-down shade in Android Q Beta 1 now shows users a small bell icon next to their most recent notification.
The purpose of the tiny new alert icon seems to be fairly obvious. For users whose phones are frequently being pinged by text messages, email alerts, and other notifications...

8 days ago   |   By MobileSyrup

Android Q features a secret desktop mode spotted within Google's Android Open Source Project. Twitter user ‘ Shad0wKn1ght93′ discovered the feature and tweeted out screenshots of their findings. The functionality lets users connect their device to an external display in order to create a desktop-like experience. With Android Q, the interface is similar to the Android home screen but in the landscape orientation. Further, the app drawer defaults to the bottom right, just like the location of the Windows button. On the left is the settings menu that currently only lets users set a wallpaper...

Google's Pixel Call Screen feature has arrived in Canada as a beta

8 days ago   |   By The Verge

Starting today, Google Pixel users in Canada can opt in to test the Call Screen beta after the feature rolled out last December for US users. The Canadian rollout was first spotted by an Android Police tipster who received the beta invite .
Pixel Call Screen is a handy feature that users can initiate once they receive a call by hitting the “Screen call button.” From there, Google Assistant vets the caller and displays relevant information, like who's calling, why, and if the caller in question is likely a spam call.
In a nod to privacy concerns, the Google Canada blog details that Call...

Alongside additions like a new share sheet and support for foldable display devices, Google is introducing a Dynamic Depth image format to Android Q,. The company's vice president of engineering, Dave Burke, detailed the format on the official Android Developers Blog. “Starting in Android Q, apps can request a Dynamic Depth image which consists of a JPEG, XMP metadata related to depth elements, and a depth and confidence map embedded in the same file on devices that advertise support,” wrote Burke. Android Q Changes Lock Screen Behavior While Playing Music

Android Q Changes Lock Screen Behavior While Playing Music

8 days ago   |   By Android Headlines

Android Q beta 1 build dropped yesterday , and we're constantly getting new info regarding the changes it brought. In this article, we're focusing on a lockscreen-related change that is not really all that obvious from the get-go.
In Android 9 Pie, when you play audio files with any sort of art attached to it , the background of your lockscreen will utilize that art image. That change was introduced way back in Android 4.4 KitKat, but things are changing, it seems. In Android Q beta 1, the lock screen background blurs out when you're playing audio files, quite a bit, actually.
The blurred...

Google-Made Screen Recorder Could Finally Debut In Android Q

8 days ago   |   By Android Headlines

Android Q is apparently going to bring the “Screen Recording” feature more into the foreground, judging by the inclusion of a screen recording flag found in the recent Android Q beta release. As 9to5Google reports, the feature is hidden inside Developer Options and needs to be enabled manually as opposed to having its own shortcut/toggle, but once enabled, it seems to work as intended.
The way the flag can be enabled could change by the time Android Q will be ready for a public release, but only time will tell whether this feature will make it to the final build. Some early features in...

Android Q's quietly important improvements

8 days ago   |   By Computerworld

Oh, hey! Wouldja look at that? Android Q is here! Well, sort of: The first Q developer preview - apparently now being called a "beta" right out of the gate - landed with a thump on these rusty ol' nets of inter Thursday afternoon. The software is far from finished, of course; this is merely an early peek at what Google's cookin' up for its next big Android version, provided mostly as a way for developers to get a head start at preparing for the release's actual arrival later this year. 8 days ago   |   By Android Headlines

Android Q will apparently bring improvements to the handling of SIM ports, based on a recent change delivered in the Beta 1 release of the firmware and spotted giving Google's Pixel 3 handset Dual SIM superpowers.
Spotted in the new update's mobile settings and shared via Twitter by Charged's Owen Williams, Android Q seems to be bringing Dual SIM, Dual Active support to Google's Pixel 3 despite the fact that it can't actually use it. The feature would effectively let the device use two SIMs simultaneously, for example with one SIM used for a phone call while the other accesses data...

Android Q Beta 1 Hides A Very Samsung-Like Feature

Android Q Beta 1 Hides A Very Samsung-Like Feature

8 days ago   |   By Android Headlines

Hidden amongst the nooks and crannies of Android Q Beta 1's code is an executable command that could fundamentally change how useful smartphones are by allowing them to be used more like portable desktop computers, XDA Developers reports.
Spotted by Twitter user Michael Young, the feature currently only works using adb shell commands in an Android Emulator, such as the one found in Android Studio. Once the appropriate command has been input - adb shell am start -n "com.android.launcher3/com.android.launcher3.SecondaryDisplayLauncher" - the desktop interface loads up.
The UI seems to be a...
