3 days ago   |   By Pocket-lint

Qualcomm has introduced a new performance-orientated laptop PC processor - the Snapdragon 8cx. The company has been releasing PC versions of its Snapdragon processors over the last year, intended for always-on PCs that bring a more smartphone-like experience to laptops with fast-resume, 4G connectivity and multi-day battery life. The Snapdragon 8cx is a new premium tier product that will co-exist with Snapdragon 850 PCs. It's based on the same 7nm manufacturing process as the just-announced Snapdragon 855 for smartphones. The new platform is 3.5 times faster than the Snapdragon 835 PCs...

OnePlus misspoke, won't have ‘the first' Snapdragon 855 smartphone

3 days ago   |   By AndroidPhoneFans

At the Qualcomm's Tech Summit, OnePlus CEO Pete Lau announced on stage that the company would be “the first” to launch a smartphone powered by Qualcomm's new Snapdragon 855. The news came as a big surprise since OnePlus devices typically hit the market in early summer. With Qualcomm leading the charge with the first Qualcomm Snapdragon 855, the company would either have to make dramatic changed to its product launch cycle or the launch of the Snapdragon 855 would be coming later than expected.
In the end, neither of those scenarios will play out. As it turns out, Pete Lau's statement was...

OnePlus wants to keep its 5G smartphone under $1,000

3 days ago   |   By MobileSyrup

OnePlus has been building hype for its next smartphone with big promises about the device featuring both Qualcomm's recently announced Snapdragon 855 and 5G capabilities. The company's CEO Pete Lau even went as far as to mention that OnePlus will ideally set the price of its 5G phone to under $1,000 USD. Lau said that the premium for 5G would likely cost consumers around $200 to $300 USD in an interview with Engadget. That means in the U.S. the phone could roughly be priced at $849 USD based off of the current price of a 6T. Although, in Canada, it will likely be priced higher due to the...

OnePlus' on-stage mistake causes confusion, says next device will be ‘among the first' with Snapdragon 855

3 days ago   |   By MobileSyrup

OnePlus CEO Pete Lau caused confusion when he said the company's next smartphone will be “among the first” to feature the Snapdragon 855 chipset when presentation slides indicated otherwise. Presentation slides at Qualcomm's Tech Summit in Hawaii this past week indicated that OnePlus would actually be the first device to launch with the 855 processor. According to Engadget , a OnePlus spokesperson confirmed that there was a mistake in the slides. Although oddly enough, Engadget further reports that on multiple occasions, and even during an interview with Pete Lau, that the company...
