Europe's competition watchdog sent a message to Google in the form of a record $5 billion antitrust fine for abusing its power in one market to strengthen its role in a few others.
As this chart from Statista shows, Google clearly dominates a few European and UK consumer markets. Even in areas where Android smartphone ownership dips, Google's search engine is used by at least 9 out of every 10 consumers, and its browser is used by four times as many users worldwide as the next leading browser, according to StatCounter data. Google's European fine is a flashback to Microsoft's ugly antitrust battle

1 month ago   |   By The Verge

Today, the European Commission handed down a $5 billion fine to Google for anti-competitive behavior, the single biggest antitrust ruling the company has ever faced. The commission's central complaint is that by requiring Chrome and Google search as default services on any device using the Google Play Store, Android is engaging in anti-competitive behavior. Opinion: EU's Android Antitrust Fine Is Just A Slap On Google's Wrist

1 month ago   |   By Android Headlines

Wall Street doesn't think that the $5 billion EU fine will slow Google down - but one analyst says there's another, overlooked cause for concern

Analysts who cover Google don't expect that the $5 billion fine imposed on the company by the European Union to cause much harm to the business.
According to reports published Wednesday by finanacial analysts, Google is largely expected to meet Wall Street expectations.
Ben Schachter, senior analyst at Macquarie Research, posted a gloomier note. He complained that Google withholds too much information and that this makes it more difficult to evaluate the company.
Schacter also stood out from others for advising caution when it comes to valuing Google's side businesses.
Wall Street is...
