Elon Musk wins improbably cheap bid to dig a tunnel through Chicago

Elon Musk's Boring Company, an organization that I'm still partially sure is a front for Musk's doomsday bunker , has won a bid to create an underground express transit system from Chicago's O'Hare airport to the city downtown area. An official announcement from the city is expected this afternoon, confirming that Musk's company beat out four other developers to win the project.
"We're really excited to work with the Mayor and the City to bring this new high-speed public transportation system to Chicago!" tweeted out The Boring Company, confirming a Chicago Tribune report .

The Boring Company's Chicago project seems awfully cheap for something so big

The Boring Company scored a surprise victory in Chicago today with the announcement that Mayor Rahm Emanuel had selected Elon Musk‘s tunneling venture to design, build, and operate a rapid transit link between O'Hare International Airport and the city's central business district. Even more surprising: Emanuel is adamant that the project will require no taxpayer money. The Boring Company has promised to pay for it.
The project will cost less than $1 billion, sources told the Chicago Tribune. But the civil engineers, infrastructure executives, and mass transit experts we spoke to are...

Chicago's infrastructure project management group, Chicago Infrastructure Trust , has now chosen Elon Musk's The Boring Company to complete the buildout of the city's Chicago Express Loop transportation solution. The loop will be responsible for taking riders between O'Hare Airport's first and third terminal and Block 37 of Chicago's downtown area at 108 North State Street. Elon Musk's Boring Company just netted itself a pretty big contract. Elon Musk's Boring Company will build high-speed transit tunnels in Chicago

Chicago mayor Rahm Emanuel today announced the city would accept a proposal from Elon Musk's Boring Company to build a high-speed underground public transportation system. The deal: Chicago's elevated train system, “the L” to locals, has operated for more than 125 years, but traffic in the windy city is anything but breezy. Last year, mayor Emanuel begged innovators and technologists to submit proposals to help update the city's public transportation system. Elon to the rescue: The city's deputy mayor, Bob Rivkin, actually name-checked Musk last year when the city issued the request...
