Update 9/25: The Pokémon Company has officially revealed the mysterious Pokémon to be Meltan, the Hex Nut Pokémon. A steel-type Pokémon that uses "its liquid arms and legs to corrode metal and absorb it into its own body," Meltan is now attainable in Pokémon Go, as players who encountered one only to have it transform into a Ditto when caught can now expect it to turn back into a Meltan. Unfortunately, it seems the Meltan has become a bit harder to come by than it was at first, but is still available for capture.

This past Saturday, something pretty weird happened in Pokémon Go: immediately after the monthly “Community Day” event came to a close, a strange, new, never-before-seen Pokémon showed up. And by “showed up”, I mean it was everywhere. Around the globe, this thing was spawning every few feet. A grey blob with a hex nut for a head, it wasn't like anything that anyone had seen in-game before.

Pokémon GO's mystery Pokémon that has been appearing in the past week, and once caught turns into a Ditto, has been revealed as a brand new mythical Pokémon named Meltan.
Revealed this morning, Meltan is a Steel-Type Hex Nut Pokémon that weighs 17.6 pounds and is 0'08" tall.
